Visit to the House of Miguel Servet
Miguel Servet, illustrious Aragonese wise man, lived his first years of life in the house of villanueva de sigena. At present the house is the seat of the Institute of Sijenenses Studies.
It is a rectangular building with three floors. The façade has an ashlar plinth, material also used in the door, while the rest of the façade is made of brick reinforced with rows of bricks and the last floor is made entirely of brick.
The door is in a semicircular arch with long voussoirs. In the housing floor there are three flat windows and a simple flown balcony, while in the upper floor, only two openings of the gallery that existed existed. The facade finishes with cantilevered eaves with carved vegetal motifs.
The interior has been deeply transformed to adapt to its new cultural use as the headquarters of the Institute of Sijenenses Studies "Michael Servetus" (Michael Servetus Institute).
On the ground floor is the entrance courtyard of the Aragonese mansions of well-to-do peasants or infanzones. The paved floor is conserved, two cisterns, used in times to store oil and water, and the refrigerator or natural refrigerator. The old stables have been transformed into a conference room. In this room the winepress of the house is also preserved. From the ground floor you access the old winery, now converted into a screening room, where visitors can watch a video that summarizes with great plasticity the life and work of Miguel Servet. On this floor, we find several explanatory panels and photographs on the vital and ethical itinerary of the life and work of Miguel Servet, as well as the reproductions of a pharmacy and an alchemy laboratory, that will bring us closer to the figure of this universal humanist. The old barn of the house has been set up as an exhibition hall, which is periodically renewed.
